If you ride any Vehicle or not, you must be familiar with the word Brakes. The first thing that comes to our mind when we hear this word is the system that stops the vehicle. And being more specific, the system which resist the motion of any body in motion. So it is clear that brakes help us stop a body in motion in a place or to retard its speed (Decelerate). The braking system works whenever a user pushes pedal or a handle or some electro-mechanical system to apply brakes wherever and whenever required.

Now think of a situation when the user fail to apply brakes at time, it can either have no effect to any thing or can be harsh collisions/accidents. So some engineers took a step forward and developed this system, called as Brake Override System. With this technology, vehicles actively make their decision if the driver fails to apply the brakes at the time when collision is about to happen.

The rapid speed of sensor technology helps the vehicle to make firm decisions when the driver fails to take action manually. It is used as the electronic fall safe and a fully integrated electronic system. When the car's on-board computer system detects any abnormal mismatch in the operation of brake pedal and accelerator, it sends the signal to stop the vehicle safely irrespective of the user's command. The system is designed for cars with electronic throttle control, software and wires that connect the gas pedal and engine to ECU.

As per National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the road would be more safer if this technology installed in all vehicle types. As per safety officials, if the application becomes a permanent part of vehicles then it could avoid many uncertain crashes on road. The application helps the vehicle user to feel confident that they can easily get the vehicle in control if any abnormal situation happens. As per studies, the application also gives the ability to step on the break if the system malfunctions at any point.

Working

Brake override system uses sensors at the brake and gas pedals, a computer for decision making. As it detects any problem, like the driver holding the brake while the car is speeding up, there are several ways for the computer to engage the brake override and slow down the car and make it to stand still.
